How to select

Decide first whether the run is the movable or the fixed version, then which panel type is wanted — mesh-panel or vertical-tube. The post section and the base fixing follow from the ground condition, and the panel length, panel height and post spacing are confirmed against the site drawing. The warning colours are the last choice: yellow-and-black alternating, red-and-white alternating, or made to order.

This is the guardrail we supply for the open edge of an excavation, a basement pit or a slab. Both light types share one 50 × 50 mm square-tube post, so the panel type can change along a single post line, and the heavier double-panel variant is there for the pit edge that has to take more. That combination is what gets specified where the edge stays open for the length of the works and the barrier has to be seen, not just present.

Photographs below show the product family; the specification on this page is the manufacturer's published figure and is quoted unchanged.

01 · Product overview

What the excavation edge guardrail is made of

The published figures are a 50 × 50 mm square-tube post shared by both light variants, mesh-panel and vertical-tube panels in a 20 × 30 mm or 30 × 30 mm square-tube outer frame with 50 × 50 mm mesh at 3.5 mm wire, and a heavier 1.1 m × 1.7 m double panel on an 8 cm square-tube post 1.3 m high.

Both light variants of this guardrail stand on the same 50 × 50 mm square-tube post, so one post line can run the length of an excavation and the panel type can change along it. The mesh-panel type closes the opening with 50 × 50 mm mesh inside a 20 × 30 mm or 30 × 30 mm square-tube outer frame, which keeps the panel light enough for one person to lift into place while still stopping materials and debris. The vertical-tube type uses a 30 × 30 mm outer frame with vertical tubes, and gives a tidier face where the barrier stands in public view.

The heavier variant is specified for a pit edge that has to take more: a panel welded from 2 cm × 4 cm square tube at 1.1 m × 1.7 m, on an 8 cm square-tube post 1.3 m high with a closed top and an 8 mm × 15 cm × 15 cm base flange drilled with four bolt holes. The flange is fixed down with Φ14 expansion bolts. Each panel carries lugs at both ends, bolted to the post with Φ10 bolts, with the lug set 15 cm from the top and bottom edge of the panel; after installation the panel top is flush with the post and the panel bottom sits 20 cm above ground, at 2 m post spacing. Panel mesh is 50 × 50 mm and the wire diameter is 3.5 mm, with spray painting as the surface treatment and yellow-and-black or red-and-white warning colours among the options. The published load capacity for this variant is about 600 kg. Where a public edge at ground level has to look settled rather than temporary, planter railing is often drawn alongside it.

Both a movable and a fixed version of that variant are made, sharing the same panel and post dimensions; the movable type adds a 20 cm triangular brace in 8 cm square tube at each of its two fixing points. The manufacturer also prints two installation quantities as examples — 100 m for the movable double-panel version and 1361 m for the fixed version — which are examples of the format rather than a figure for your site.

One site rule is worth repeating and is quoted on both variants: the edge of an excavation deeper than 2 m must carry protective railings, and a stairway should be at least 1 m wide. Guardrail positions, toe boards and access openings for a working excavation follow the project's own safety plan, so send us the drawing and we supply to it rather than to a default layout. Where the completed works leave a planted edge, the same drawing usually closes it with PVC railing.

06 · Questions buyers ask

Excavation Edge Guardrail — frequent questions

Every answer below repeats a figure or a term already published on this page; nothing is added to the specification here.

How is the excavation edge guardrail fixed down?

On the heavier variant the published base flange is an 8 mm × 15 cm × 15 cm steel plate with 4 bolt holes, fixed to the ground with Φ14 expansion bolts, and each panel is bolted to the post through lugs at both ends with Φ10 bolts. For the light mesh-panel and vertical-tube types on the common 50 × 50 mm square-tube post, the fixing method is confirmed against the site drawing.

Which parts are made to my drawing?

The listed sections are quoted unchanged. What is made to the project specification is which variant is needed, the panel type and size, the post section and spacing, the base fixing and the warning colours, plus the positions of any toe boards and access openings from the project safety plan. Send the drawing or the standard you follow and we confirm in writing what we can supply against it.

What is the price, the MOQ and the lead time?

Price: quoted per order — FOB Wuhan / Shanghai, CIF or DDP. MOQ, loading plan and lead time are confirmed per specification — send the drawing, quantity and destination port and we reply within one business day.

How are the panels and posts packed and loaded?

Panels and posts are bundled and palletised for container loading; the exact packing method is confirmed per specification with the loading plan. Long sections are bundled by type, so one bundle is one kind of part when the container is unpacked on site.

What documents come with the order, and what about the warning finish?

Proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin as required; buyers who need CE / EN / ASTM documentation tell us the standard and it is confirmed in writing what can be supplied. The finish on the heavier variant is spray painting, with the panel painted yellow and the post painted red, or yellow-and-black alternating, red-and-white alternating, or made to order. The light types carry the yellow-black warning finish on the specified panels and posts.
